Tidal is the fourth in a series of “self-striping yarn that is not socks” experiment I’ve been working on! It uses short-rowing and eyelets to make the lines really pop and stand out!

Tidal is a asymmetrical, half-circle shawl that uses a skein of self-striping to do all the color work, while the solid makes a great background to pop that special skein off of!

Size: 90 in/229 cm along the top edge from tip to tip X 18 in/45 cm along the center point at the widest part of the shawl. Shawl size may vary, depending on individual knitter’s gauge, yarns used, and blocking preferences.

Recommended yarn: A skein of a complementary semi-solid/tonal/solid fingering weight for Main color (MC) and a Self-Striping or variegated fingering weight yarn for Contrast color (CC).

Sample Used: Biscotte and Cie Bis Sock (85% Merino/15% Nylon; 435 yd/398 m) in the color ways Vert (MC) and Constantinople (CC).

Yardage: MC: 400-420 yds/ 384 m; CC: 400 yds/ 365 m

Needles: One set of 32 inches or greater US size 5/3.75 mm circular needles.

Gauge: 6 sts to the inch in garter stitch on a US size 5/3.75 m needle

Notions: scissors, tapestry needle.
