The Way it Goes
The socks were designed for my long-time Ravelry friend Patti. Over the years we’ve known each other, there were quite some incidents and changes in her life and I wanted to use a stitch pattern to reflect this and to symbolize that it is hard to predict what happens next in life. On the heel flap and the instep the zig-zagging all-over pattern leads smoothly into diagonal, yet straight forward lines though, since there’s always hope life’s journey will follow a calmer path in the future.
The sock pattern, which is knitted from the top down and features heel flap and gusset, comes in two sizes to fit leg circumference:
M - 7.25” (18.5 cm) and L - 8.5” (21.25 cm).
Leg length results in 9” (23 cm)] when knit as given in pattern (adjustable); foot length results in a minimum of 8.75 (9.5)” 22.25 (24.5) cm; it is adjustable for more length.
The socks are mirror images of each other and there are different charts for heel flap and foot for the left and the right sock. Shortening or lengthening the leg length, must be done in increments of 15 or 30 rounds. Instructions are given in the pattern.
You can choose to work the textured pattern either from the
charts or the written instructions.
The Drive Thru pattern is also available as part of the (No longer virtual) Friends eBook.
