The Tuesday Shawl is a nod to my family’s roots in fiber arts, combined with my love of multi-media textiles. I believe you can wear a story, and this pattern does just that for me. My aunts, grandmother and great grandmothers were all weavers, knitters, crocheters and seamstresses. I was taught to make and create with the things around me, and there was always fodder for creation amongst the piles of yarn and fabric in their homes.

The Tuesday Shawl is a triangular shawl based off of a pattern I found in an old knitting manual - the shale stitch. The construction begins with a garter tab cast on, and works its way down through layers of integrated fabric strips. Increases are worked along the center spine, and along the top edge on right side rows.

Suggested yarn:

  1. Blue Sky Fibers Organic Cotton Worsted or any Aran weight yarn. ~250 yards (15% additional accounted for)
  2. Torn cotton fabric or any bulky or heavy weight fiber. ~42 yards.

This shawl would showcase handspun yarn, sari yarn, or use your imagination!

Additional materials needed:

US13 - 32” circular needle or greater
Measuring tape
Scissors
Crochet hook
