The Librarian Cardigan is the v-neck cardigan version of the Librarian pullover pattern. While the Cardigan appears to have set-in sleeves and to be covered in cables, the sleeves are worked contiguously with the body, and there are no cables involved at all. The pattern includes optional puff shoulders, as pictured.

The pullover is worked bottom-up in the round, and from the underarms the sleeves and body are worked together with decreases that shape the armscye.

Yarn
Hillesvåg Vidde (100% Norwegian wool, 200 m / 218 yds, 100 g)

Alternatives: Hillesvåg Varde, Rauwerk DK, Sandnes Peer Gynt, De Rerum Natura Gilliatt etc.

You will get the best results with an Aran-worsted (or heavy DK) weight sheep’s wool yarn with a good stitch definition.

Needles
Two sets of circular gauge-size needles for body and sleeves, and 1 mm below gauge-size needles for cuff, and neckline.

The sample was made using 5.5 mm (US 9) and 4.5 mm (US 7).

Gauge
16 sts x 28 rnds = 10 cm / 4” in stockinette stitch.

Construction
Although The Librarian has a set-in sleeve silhouette, the sleeves and body are worked together contiguously to minimise the need for assembly.

The Librarian is worked bottom-up in the round. The sleeves and body are joined together at the underarm, and decrease in the round. Finally, the shoulders are grafted together, and a band for the cardigan opening and v-neckline are picked up along the steek and worked in one piece.

There are two ways of working the yoke, one that gives regular shoulder and one that gives slight puff shoulders. The sample in the photos is the puff shoulder version.

The pattern uses a simple lattice stitch pattern that gives the appearance of a cable pattern, without working any cables.
