Talvikki collar
Description:
Talvikki is an answer to a need to have something warm and woolly to protect neck from cold weather. It is slight enough to fit nicely under the winter jacked and enables you to move flexible in walks through the forests for example. There are simple cable twists, double moss stitches, bobbles and twisted stitches in this collar. It is shaped with increases worked in double moss stitch edge, and with German short rows in hem. Talvikki is worked top to down seamlessly first in round and separated after decreases. There is an Italian bind off used in hem, so there is a nice flexible edge. In pattern there are charts and written instructions.
Yarn:
Merino alpaca diy. Create with Adlibris. (80 % extrafine merino wool, 20% alpaca. Undyed. 100 g = 200 m / 218 yards = one skein)
or
Vuonue Pentti wool sock yarn 100 g = 240 m / 263 yards = one skein (140 tex 3, DK. 70 % Finnish lamp wool, 30 % Tencel). Colorway grey.
or
the yarn you are able to achieve the right gauge with and stitch definition is good enough. Nako pure wool has great stitch definition for example.
Yardage:
Merino Alpaca 87 g
Pentti 80 g
Needles:
US 4 (3.5 mm) circular needle. (Magic Loop 31.5”/ 80 cm.)
Gauge:
10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inc = 31 r x 21 sts in stockinette st in flat.
Gauge is same with both yarns, but with blocking Pentti stretch more. So if you want 0.79” / 2 cm longer and wider collar with Pentti you can stretch the collar more while blocking it.
Size:
One size only.
Measurements for the finished item:
11” / 28 cm = From top to hem
7.8” / 20 cm = Width on top
13” / 33 cm = Width on hem
5.1” / 13 cm = Length on neck
5.9” / 15 cm = Length on hem
With Pentti you can get + 0.79” / 2 cm more length and width if you stretch it more while blocking.
