Taffeta is a large asymmetrical triangle shawl full of stripes, texture, and my favorite thing: two-color brioche. Inspired by vintage tea parties and pastel party dresses, this shawl is so easy to wear!
Choose 3 colors of sport weight yarn, along with 2 skeins of lace weight yarn for a stripy brioche shawl! I chose 3 contrasting colors for the sport weight (Hedgehog Fibres newest, squishiest Sporty Singles), and then 1 skein of lace mohair and 1 skein of lace cashmere in the same color as Color C sport yarn to add texture and fuzz! But feel free to use 2 different colors with the same lace base, or different lace bases and different colors! Fingering weight yarn may also be substituted if you prefer that instead of lace weight, but please note that the size of your shawl may vary.
This shawl features new yarn by Hedgehog Fibres, Sporty Singles! You can find this new yarn and kits in limited quantities on their website!!
Skill level: Beginner brioche - Intermediate. Basic brioche skills are not required, but are recommended. Techniques used: knit, purl, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), brioche increases and decreases, asymmetrical triangle shawl shaping. I wrote this pattern to be very approachable to brioche beginners who want to dive into a larger project! It is very repetitive and the stripes make it an engaging knit!
Construction Notes: This asymmetrical triangle shawl is knit from side to side, beginning with cast on stitches, and ending with bind off stitches for a large border. The shaping is created by increasing stitches at the edges, and decreasing stitches in the center, which makes a pattern perfect for large chevron stripes! After working this shaping, you will drop one of the increases at the left edge to begin knitting on the bias and change the shawls shape slightly. The stripe sequence and changing yarns keep it very engaging! The size of the shawl makes it easy to wear in many different ways. My favorite way to wear it is kerchief-style, with the longest edge wrapped around my neck and shoulders.
This pattern is both written and charted for your convenience!
