Synnott’s Mill Cowl is named for the first mill that stood on the Eno River, which runs behind my house. The mill was built sometime before 1752. Though nothing remains of the original mill now, one can imagine what that first mill on the river might have looked like, surrounded by the pine forest of the North Carolina piedmont. Flowing over the mill’s water wheel, the river would cascade down and create ripples and rough water on the normally placid surface. The chevron pattern of this cowl is inspired by the water flowing over the mill’s wheel.

Short: 21 inch 53 cm circumference,

Gauge:
16 stitches and 18 rows over 4 inches 10cm in stockinette stitch.

Materials
• 1 (2) skeins Plymouth Linen Concerto (48% rayon/42% linen/10% cotton, 101 yds 92m).
• US 7 (4.5mm) needles for knitting flat.
• Smooth scrap yarn.
• Darning needle.
• Markers optional.
