Summit Lake lies to the south of Lake Tahoe and is in the Truckee Ranger District of the Tahoe National Forest. One of my favorite parts of hiking this trail is the fact that it includes a section of the Pacific Crest Trail. At an elevation of 7200’, it is a pleasant trail with granite slopes and steps, gentle forest climbs, and even a taste of alpine meadow on the way to picturesque Summit Lake. Particularly memorable to me (and the icon that inspired this scarf design) was the series of stacked rock cairns along the trail at some of the higher points. The gentle scallops on the edge of the scarf mimic the curving lines of these rock piles which once directed hikers.

PATTERN NOTES
To most easily work this pattern, it is a good idea to take a few moments to understand the construction of the garment. It will be worked from point to point, and has a short row insertion in the center to create drape.

There are three distinct sections in each row you will work. This is where the stitch markers are your best friends, as they will remind the knitter where to switch sections.
