The Sulka Mitts are based on an ancient scrap of nalbilding that was found in the area that is now Syria. I named this pattern Sulka, the Finnish word for feather in honor of my Finnish grandma, Julia.

These rustic, homespun mitts are perfect accessory for chilly mornings at the campfire. The feather design is based on a stitch pattern found on one of the oldest pieces of nalbinding (an early predecessor of knitting) ever found. Imagine women of an ancient era creating the same stitch as you knit these gloves, and feel the thread of history binding us together.

Knit seamlessly in the round, these mitts feature a deceptively easy braid detail and afterthought thumb.

These mitts are perfect for any Aran weight yarn. Cocoa chaff naturally hand dyed yarn from Fern Fiber was used for the sample, and has a lovely, rustic halo.
