Sugar Creek is a fast 90-mile river, edged with sugar maples, and is generally thought to be the most beautiful stream in Indiana. Mimicking its namesake’s current, the Sugar Creek Shawl is a top down triangle, knit with waves of texture that hit against coastal garter bands with a clean I-cord edge. Beautiful worked in 1 color or 2, and with solid or painted yarns.
Size
60” / 152 cm across the top
40” / 101 cm down each side
Yarn
750-950 yards of fingering weight, depending on your yarn.
Sugar Creek was inspired by and originally created using 950 yards of Sweet Fiber Yarn’s 100% merino singles Sweet Merino Lite in ‘West Coast Wonder’.
Tester created 2 color version using a total of 750 yards (MC: 500 yards, CC: 250 yards) in ColourMart’s Cashmere/Merino 3/15NM fingering wt 10/90 and 4 ply extra fine merino.
Gauge
25 sts and 26 rows per 4” / 10 cm in pattern stitch. Gauge is not too important for a successful project, but will affect final yardage and size.
