Stua
Stua (Irish for Arc) is a biased garter stitch hat with a square top. The hat features diagonal rainbow stripes, and is completed with rainbow pom poms. Stua is knitted flat, grafted into a tube and closed with a seam along the top.
Size: baby, toddler, child, small adult, large adult.
To fit head (40, 44, 48, 53, 58 cm / 16, 17.5, 19, 21, 23”)
Sport weight yarn in the following quantities:
Colours 1-6 (8m / 9 yds) each.
Colour 7 (133, 159, 189, 232, 278 m / 146, 174, 207, 254, 304 yes)
Note: pom poms use approx. 30 m / 32 m yarn, included in yarn estimates above.
Sample was knit using Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino in the following shades:
Col 1 (Purple) 95 Cyclamen
Col 2 (Dark Blue) 59 Teal
Col 3 (Green) 80 Emerald
Col 4 (Yellow) 83 Butter
Col 5 (Orange) 92 Orange
Col 6 (Red) 34 Red
Col 7 (Light blue) 202 Light Blue
Gauge: 26 sts & 54 rows per 10 cm / 4 “ in garter stitch, knit flat
Additional Materials
2.75mm circular needle, or size needed to achieve gauge
Waste yarn & crochet hook for provisional CO
Spare needle, same size as gauge or slightly smaller
Darning needle for weaving in ends
Stitch markers
Card or pom pom maker
(optional) Needle & thread for sewing pom pom.
The pattern includes instructions for a rainbow-stripped pom pom.
