Pattern is available in Knit Companion.
Strawberry Mountain is a quick and easy cowl with simple striping and colorwork that looks impressive but is really just slipped stitches and uses only one color per row!
It’s so much fun to work the colorwork in a gradient yarn and it’s also a great way to use up stash and leftover yarn. Be sure to use strongly contrasting colors and do swatch the colorwork to make sure you’re happy with the way your yarn works. Hint: You might even want to flip the colors for the mosaic and there are colorwork charts included for the reverse color option.
Choose between easy stockinette all the way or try working the contrast color in garter stitch (knit on both sides, which is even easier!) and watch the texture truly pop out on the colorwork.
Strawberry Mountain is worked on the bias from one end to the other, starting with just 6 stitches, and is only slightly asymmetrical. The I-Cord edges are worked as you go so there’s no finishing to do and the bind-off is also I-Cord.
The superior fit of the cowl is due to the angled edges at the back neck. The angles are then seamed or you can optionally add loops and buttons for additional versatility in wearing.
The pattern is written for heavy fingering or sport weight yarn but it can be made in any weight. Size and yarn usage will vary with differences in gauge.
Instructions are included for how to read the mosaic colorwork charts and there’s also a link to a Mosaic instructional video by Felicia Wong of Sweet Georgia. She’s using my Smugglers Cove Shawl in the video ;).
INSPIRATION: Strawberry Mountain Wilderness is a wilderness area of the Strawberry Mountain Range in the Blue Mountains of eastern Oregon. It’s over 69,000 acres of mountain peaks and seven lakes, and contains more than 125 miles of hiking trails.
This pattern has been professionally tech-edited and tested.
