Spike the Zombie Cactus
Spike the Zombie Cactus is a whole lot of fun and a little bit spooky. My son requested a zombie cactus and the idea sprang to life – it has brains, terrible teeth and a bone sticking out. A cute, Halloween-inspired design with just the right mix of kawaii!
Spike is an intermediate amigurumi (crochet) pattern written in English using US (American) terminology. The pattern includes detailed instructions in an easy to follow layout but a knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques used to make amigurumi is essential.
Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished item. My Spike is approx. 14cm tall (5 ½ inches).
You will receive one PDF file which requires software like Adobe Reader to open (this is free to download).
You will need:
- 2.75mm hook/C-2 (US)
- 8ply yarns/DK or Light Worsted, less than 50g in WHITE, LIME, PINK, TAN, BLUE and LIGHT BLUE
- BLACK embroidery thread or 4ply yarn
- 1x 8mm safety eye
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Polyester toy stuffing
- Stitch marker (optional)
Notes:
- Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round and a yarn with no stretch is best.
- When changing colour, pull through the new colour on the stitch before you need it. This will ensure that you have the correct colour yarn on the hook for the upcoming stitch.
- Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
- Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished item.
- I’ve used the following yarns: o WHITE = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 401 Paper White o LIME = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 429 Lime Green o PINK = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col.454 Blush Pink o TAN = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 408 Vanilla Cream o BLUE = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 433 Washed Teal o LIGHT BLUE = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 436 Duck Egg Blue
