This design is a nod to my childhood in Southeastern Idaho, where the Snake River winds and twines around fields of wheat and potatoes, and lines of sprinkler pipe stretch out as far as the eye can see. I can’t say I miss driving tractors, but the smells of sagebrush and WD-40 bring it all back again!

Knit in a rectangle, the poncho is seamed along one shoulder for comfortable wearing. Three sizes are available, with tips for further customization, but I’ve seen the size Average look great on women from 5’1” to 5’10”.

The poncho’s sculptural cables are easier to work than they might seem, and it’s great fun to watch them take shape. Marianated Yarns Harley blooms beautifully in the blocked fabric, with a subtle sheen.

Pattern contains both fully charted and written instructions.

Recommended Yarn:
Marianated Yarns Harley — 55% superwash merino / 25% nylon / 20% kid mohair — 438 yds (400 m) per 100 g. Shown in colorway Dune, from the Gustopotamus Gradient, which is slightly lighter in person. For most even results with hand-dyed yarns, it is recommended to alternate skeins.

An excellent yarn sub would be Marianated Yarns Scrumptious HT, a fingering weight MCN blend that can be knit at the same gauge.

Petite — 1,350 yds (1,234 m)
Average — 1,550 yards (1417 m)
Tall — 1,875 yards (1,714 m)

Sizing:
Three sizes — Petite (Average, Tall). Shown in Average. Length and width of all sizes can be easily adjusted for custom fit. Dimensions of rectangle, after blocking and before seaming:

Petite — 19” x 56” (48 cm x 142 cm)
Average — 21” x 60” (53 cm x 152.5 cm)
Tall — 23” x 64” (58 cm x 162.5 cm)

Gauge:
25 sts and 36 rows = 4” (10 cm) over center purl ridge pattern.

Needles:
US 3 (3.25 mm) and US 4 (3.5 mm) needles, straight or circular

PLEASE NOTE: Be sure to take the time to both knit a gauge swatch, and to wash and block that swatch (measuring it before and after). This gauge creates a fabric that is loose enough to drape, but firm enough to keep its shape and structure. Changes in gauge will affect finished size and amount of yarn used—to meet these dimensions, be sure to use the needle size that gives gauge.
