Simple Hat Band
Dress up a plain hat or upcycle an old one by crocheting a new hat band for it! This pattern uses US terms for crochet, and is a simple, adjustable recipe, made to the measurements of your hat.
This pattern is also good for stash busting! The bands pictured here used Handy Hands Lizbeth 20 cotton thread (red, white and blue), Nazli Gelin Garden 10 cotton thread (black and white), and DMC Cebelia 10- all leftovers from other projects. I used a 1.65mm hook for both bands, as it’s my favorite steel hook. Buttons were also from stash.
Ingredients:
Crochet thread (Size 10 or 20) - small fraction of a ball
Steel Hook US Size 7 (1.65mm)
1 Button, approximately the width of your band. Or use a bigger button if you’re feeling fancy.
Sewing needle with an eye large enough for your crochet thread choice
Gauge: not terribly important. You don’t want to work too loosely or too tightly. You’ll want your band to have some drape but not be shapeless or gauzy or too stretchy. You’re aiming for a ribbon-like texture and consistency. For reference, with Size 10 thread and 1.65mm hook, at 8 DC across my band was ¾ inch wide.
