Shotgun Mitts
New Orleans Knits is part of my Armchair Travel Series. 5 patterns for $15 is half off individual pricing!
While researching New Orleans I came upon the distinctive style of houses. There are several but the shotgun houses are by far my favorite. It is a cultural architectural form that originated in the American South and was used extensively throughout the region.
They are cheerful, colorful and a common house design in New Orleans. Shotgun houses are long and narrow with a gable-ended entrance, one room wide and two or three rooms deep. Why the name? Some say the shotgun house is so named because one can fire a shotgun through the front door and the shot will exit out the back door without ever touching a wall.
In keeping with the Shotgun style the mitts are a straight knit with some jazziness! The fun to knit cable design and I-cord edging make for a quick knit. Knit them, fold and seam creating the thumb opening. How fun is that?
Perfect for an advanced beginner and interesting enough for knitters with more experience. Even if you’ve never cabled before give the Shotgun Mitts a try! Instructions are written and charted with video support too!
