She Sells Sea Shells Applique or Ornament
This adaptable pattern can be fashioned into several different finished items, including bookmarks, appliques, and hanging ornaments.
Your choice of crochet thread or yarn and the appropriate sized hook allows for several size possibilities.
With size 10 crochet thread and a 2.00 mm hook, shell measures about 1 ½ inches wide.
With size 3 crochet thread and a 3.25 mm hook, shell measures just over 2 inches wide.
A contrasting edging may be added for further interest.
The technique used to create the unusual-looking stitches is called by various names. In the pattern, I have chosen to stick with the term ‘linked stitch’, such as ldc (linked double crochet). This linked method is actually a variation of Tunisian crochet, with the end of the ‘forward pass’ joined to another spot on the item before making the ‘return pass’. Full instructions for creating these stitches is given, along with some links to some great photo and video tutorials. Don’t be afraid to try it- This tiny project is a great introduction and confidence booster!
