Black-eye Susan bloom in the late summer here New Hampshire, and their bright yellow petals and bulbous centers inspired me to create an Autumn sweater-vest that can be worn during the transitional seasons.

This cropped, short-sleeved sweater is knitted top-down with minimal shaping. The yoke boasts flowers with bobbled centers. The trunk is knit in two-colored brioch for a slight flare.

The yarns used in this picture are Madelinetosh High twist, but any yarns that give you the recommended gauge is suitable.

The sweater is worked in the round beginning with a provisional cast-on, then increased to lead into two-color stranded knitting. The flower pattern is an array of random flowers with bobbles to add dimension to their centers. The knitter chooses the orientation of the flowers by rotating the chart as they wish. Once the yoke is completed, the lower half is worked in two-color Brioche rib knitted in the round. This gives the sweater a slight flare and a vertical striped look to complement our natural curves.
Measurements are of actual garment size. Ease is relative to the stretchiness of the yarn you are using. I used a super-washed merino wool that maintained its elasticity after washing and blocking.
