Sancho Proudfoot
Sancho is a mischievous little hobbit who refers to himself as Dread Highwayman Sancho Proudfoot. He was caught searching for Bilbo’s treasure and Frodo spends a lot of time getting him out of trouble. His socks need to be sturdy but ready for any sort of adventure.
The sock is worked toe-up with gusseted heel (sample) or short row heel but I included notes on how to convert it to cuff down construction in case you want the side panel pointing upward instead of downward.
Skills needed: knitting in the round, basic stitches, basic increases and decreases, short rows.
Sizing
Small (Medium, Large) – to fit teen to adult with foot circumference of 0-1.5 inches/0-3.8 cm larger than finished dimensions below, depending on desired snugness.
Finished Dimensions
7.0 (8.0, 9.5) inches/18.8 (21.3, 24.4) cm, blocked and unstretched
The sample is shown in size Large with 0.5 inches/1.3 cm negative ease (i.e., 10 inch/25 cm foot circumference). Choose a size that is 0-1.5 inches/0-3.8 cm larger than the listed finished dimensions.
Stitch pattern compresses a surprising amount horizontally significantly so don’t let the cast on number deter you. The gauge of the main stitch pattern is 42 stitches x 44 rows in 4 inches/10 cm.
