Roundabout Plant Pot Cover
I designed this pot cover to brighten up a dull planter I have for one of my houseplants. The interesting stitch pattern looks very effective, especially in the 7 rainbow colours. It creates an eye catching 3D-like effect, and the vivid colours cheer up any room.
The pot cover is made in the round, first by making a circular base and then working around in the colourful stitch pattern for the sides.
The pot cover is designed to fit a ceramic plant pot / planter with a base of approximately 13cm / 5 inches in diameter and a height of 14cm / 5.5 inches. However, the pattern is easily adaptable by adding extra rounds to the base, or making less to suit a smaller pot. You can also make more or less rounds up the side to match the height of your chosen pot.
You will need:
Yarn: aran weight cotton yarn in 7 rainbow colours for the sides, plus another colour for the base (or you could use one of the rainbow colours for the base if you prefer).
Hook: 5mm - or a hook to suit your chosen yarn
I used Drops Paris yarn which is 100% cotton, 50g/75m per ball.
I needed around 25g for the base and 10-15g for each rainbow colour.
Tension
Tension is not critical for this project, however you will need to check that your cover fits your pot as you go. You can omit or add rounds to the base to fit you pot, and add or omit
rounds to the main body to match the height of your pot.
Dimensions
Pot cover measures 14cm/ 5.5 inches in height; the base measures 15cm / 6 inches in diameter.
The pattern is written in both US and UK crochet terms and you will receive a pdf for each.
The stitch pattern looks complicated, but is surprisingly easy to do once you know how. The pattern includes close up photos which help to demonstrate the trickier parts of the pattern.
I hope that you will use the pattern to make lots of colourful pot covers which will show off your beautiful houseplants!
