This cowl was designed with travel knitting in mind, and to that end it is very fun and easy to knit on the go. I actually knit up the sample while on a road-trip with my family earlier this year which is where the name for the cowl came from.

It was the perfect road trip project, as the pattern was quick to memorise, it was easy to see where I was in my repeats, and I was able to keep track of my progress by weighing my yarn at the end of each day.

Its a very adaptable pattern and can be made longer by adding a second skein or made wider by casting on more stitches!

What you will need:

Yarn – Total amount of 100gm Fingering weight yarn (approx. 365m/400 yds per 100gm); Yarn used in the sample is by Fuse Fibre Studio on the Fuse Fingering base (80/20 Superwash Merino / Nylon) in the Wanderlust Colourway.

Needles – 3.75mm (US5) 16” circular for knitting in the round.

Gauge – Approximately 28 sts / 4 inch in pattern after blocking.

Size – The cowl is 27in (68.5cm) in circumference and is 6.5in (16.5cm) in depth.

Notions

  • 1 Stitch Marker for marking the beginning of the round and 8 additional markers for marking pattern repeats

  • Crochet hook in same or similar size as your knitting needle for provisional cast on
  • A spare set of circular needles in the same size or smaller than for the main pattern for picking up the provisional cast on (length of cord is not important)
  • A tapestry needle for weaving in ends and grafting.
  • Scales are optional but handy to have
