This pattern is designed as a fun crescent shaped shawl with sections of simple knitting interspersed with some fun textures, so that it is fun and never boring to work on and will keep you extra warm and cozy on cold Autumn and Winter days.

This pattern was initially released as a Mystery Knit Along … the pattern is now available as a single document with the finished photos included. However, I have left the clues in the download so you have the choice to knit it that way if you wish as well.

What you will need:

• Yarn: You will need a DK weight yarn, which gives you approximately 220 - 247 yards (200 - 225 meters) per 100 - 115 grams for each colour.

You will be using 2 colours, and 2 skeins of each colour, so a total of 440 - 498 yards (400 - 452 meters) of each colour.

(A note about colour choices - I highly suggest sticking to Tonal/Semi-solid and Lightly speckled yarns for the best results - if you are going with the 2 colour option I would also suggest going for high contrast colours to get the best effect).

Alternatively you could knit the shawl all in one colour in which case you would need a total of 880 - 988 yards (800 - 903 meters) of yarn.

  • The yarn I used in the sample shawl is Primrose Yarn Co on the Jasper DK base. Colourways used are Curry Spice (Colour A) and Snow Owl (Colour B), 247 yards (255 meters) per 115 grams.

  • I used a total of 810 yards (740 meters) for my sample shawl with 40gm left over of Colour A and 30gm left over of Colour B.

  • Alternatively you can use any DK yarn, which gives you the appropriate total yardage.

• Needles – 4.5mm (US7) with a Long Cable to accommodate the large number of stitches – I suggest a minimum of 40 inch (100cm) cord length.

• Notions – 2 Stitch Markers for marking increases, 1 removable Progress Marker to mark the right side of your work.

• Gauge – Gauge is really not too important with this shawl as long as you like the fabric you are getting. As a reference the sample shown had a gauge of 20sts / 4 inches in stockinette after gentle blocking. However, please note if you gauge is significantly different this can affect the finished size and yardage requirements for the shawl.

• Pattern Notes – You will be increasing 2 stitches on every row (right and wrong sides) unless otherwise noted in the instructions below. Rows with more increases will have the number of stitches increased noted at the end of that row in brackets. Additionally stitch counts are shown at the end of each section so you can keep track of where you are.

Finished Size of Shawl:

Approx. 212cm (83.5in) on the longest edge & 40cm (16 in) deep.

Please note finished size will vary greatly depending on gauge, and how extensively the shawl is blocked.
