Ringwood Socks
This pattern is available from Payhip via the pattern website above and from LoveCrafts here
This pattern includes instructions for a slipped stitch heel and gusset sock knitted either from the top down (pages 1,2,3) or from the toe up (pages1-2 & 4-5).
The Ringwood stitch was my Grandmother’s signature stitch and it’s used here to bring out the colours in very variegated yarns and really make them pop. This stitch pattern was traditionally used to make gloves in Ringwood, approximately 20 miles from where I grew up and the centre of a cottage industry of glove making in Victorian Britain.
The socks are available in 3 sizes:
Small – Shoe size UK3-5, EU34-37, US5-7
Medium – Shoe size UK6-8, EU38-42, US8-10
Large – Shoe size UK9-10, EU43-45, US11-13
There’s a schematic showing actual measurements and advice on how to measure your foot and how to adjust your sizing to achieve the best fit.
A surprisingly simple but effective pattern, the top down is an ideal first sock pattern, and once confident with the form and construction you can always move on to give the toe up version a try.
The pattern is easy to remember and to read from your knitting - this really is my go anywhere, knit anywhere sock pattern for lovely squishy cosy socks.
