Rigging Socks
Evoking both the cabled patterns on fishermen’s sweaters and the ropes used on their ships, the Rigging Socks are rugged enough for manly wear but can also look delicate and feminine when worked in brightly colored yarns with finer texture.
This pattern is an advanced beginner/intermediate level pattern, and a great first cable pattern.
Gauge: 4 cables/3 space sections across; 4 cables down = 3.25” horizontally and 3” vertically after blocking
Sizing for this pattern is broken out by the measurement of the bridge of the foot (circumference of foot at widest point just below the toes). This determines the circumference of the sock. The foot length should be adjusted based on the length of the foot (total foot length minus 2” for heel construction), and the leg can be made as short or tall as desired.
Should you wish a more delicate-looking cable, try lighter weight yarns and swatch to determine how many stitches you need to adjust to fit the foot. Need bigger socks than our XL size? Try going up to a sport weight and swatching for those adjustments.
We hope you enjoy working up our Rigging Socks!
