Repeal The Eighth Hat

Inspired by the famous pussy Hat I decided I needed a similar style of hat for protesting. Here in Ireland we are very focused on the campaign to repeal the 8th amendment of the constitution which gives equal rights to the embryo and the person carrying it. It restricts access to abortion in all circumstances unless the person is in imminent danger of death. No exceptions are made for rape, fatal fetal abnormalities, etc. It has caused a lot of suffering and there is a campaign to repeal it and introduce access to abortion here. An estimated 12 people a day travel to the U.K. and other places to access healthcare they should be able to get at home. If a person cannot travel due to money or emigration status it causes them intense hardship and distress. Procuring an abortion with pills is illegal and carries the threat of a 14 year prison sentence however many will try this.

This hat uses black the colour of the famous repeal sweaters and a red cross to make clear that the 8th is unwanted and should be repealed. I hope this hat will be of use in the upcoming campaign when the referendum is called next year. I hope to release the pattern and chart soon too.

Adult medium size. Double knitting yarn.
50g of main colour and small amounts of other colours.
