Refraction is an easy striped shawl featuring an interesting slipped-stitch pattern. Two gradient sets from Leading Men Fibers Arts was used for the sample. Each mini skein in the set is 20-grams. It’s the perfect shawl to use up those mini skeins! You could also combine two gradient yarns to make a beautifully unique shawl.
Finished Measurements
Width: 56”; Depth at widest point: 26”
Gauge
20 sts and 32 rows = 4” in garter st, blocked
Gauge is not critical for this pattern; however, a different gauge will affect size of shawl and amount of yarn used.
Materials
- 552 yards of fingering weight yarn in color A
- 552 yards of fingering weight yarn in color B
- US Size 5 (3.75mm) circular needle, 24” or longer, or size needed to obtain gauge
- 1 stitch marker
- Tapestry Needle
- Blocking Supplies
Pattern Notes
Gradient sets are labeled CA and CB. There are 6 mini skeins within each set. In the pattern, the mini skeins are labeled 1 through 6 (i.e., CA1, CB1, CA2, CB2, and so on). You may find it helpful to decide on the order you would like to use the mini skeins at the start of the project and make a note on the pattern.
Yarn Used for Shawl Shown: 2 Show Stopper Gradient Sets from Leading Men Fiber Arts, 75% superwash merino wool/25% nylon, 552 yards/120 grams TOTAL (92 yards/20 grams EACH SKEIN), in the colors Cactus Garden Lanterns (CA, 1 set) and London Fog (CB, 1 set)
