Purpureus Grandiflorus
Purpureus Grandiflorus is the Latin name for the spring crocus. It’s still very much winter here – there are no flowers to see yet – but I’m hopeful that spring is just around the corner! This design can be repeated to infinity, so you can make it any size you want! FAQs on YouTube
You’ll have 4 options:
- Interlocking crochet from the bottom-up (like normal)
- Interlocking crochet from the center-out
- Overlay mosaic crochet from the bottom-up (cut at the end of each row) Can also be used for Tunisian Mosaic Crochet!
- Overlay mosaic crochet from the center-out (no ends to cut!)
Each technique has it’s own file with the written pattern and appropriate charts. Mosaic charts have x’s marking the dropped double crochets.
Remember, the yardage amounts areper square* but you are not creating squares that need to be joined together, you’re continuously crocheting - the measurements are just per finished square.*

The Locked Filet Mesh (LFM) interlocking crochet method uses only chain spaces and double crochets to create a mesh; two colors are worked alternately which creates the pattern. YouTube tutorials
Mosaic crochet uses single crochet and double crochet stitches. The double crochet stitches cover some of the other color’s single crochet stitches to create the design. My patterns instruct you to cut your yarn at the end of each row. The back is striped but often gives a faint impression of the pattern on the front (sort of like illusion knitting). See an example here. YouTube tutorial.
Both techniques can be done from the center-out. Tutorials:
