Phosphenes
Please read the notes below before purchasing
Pattern rating: Complex
Remember as a child closing your eyes and suddenly being swept into a world where tiny bursts of light dance in the darkness. Those soft, ephemeral glimmers are known as phosphenes.
With this design, I wanted to evoke that magical effect.
Each stitch is like a captured glow, a tiny spark woven from dreams, hinting at the beauty that often lies just beyond sight. Phosphenes invites you to embrace the delicate mystery of light and let it illuminate your world.
Phosphenes assumed knowledge:
Phosphenes is a complex, advanced pattern and is not suitable for beginners or inexperienced crocheters the following is assumed knowledge:
You will need to know how to work the following standard stitches, you may like to google tutorials if you are not sure on any one in particular:
dc: Double crochet
sc: Single crochet
tr: Treble crochet
wc: Waistcoat stitch
bl: Work the stitch in the back loop and the 3rd loop e.g blsc1
ch: Chain
skp: Skip stitch
sl st: Slip stitch
ch-sp: Chain space
You will need to be familiar with working with two yarns at once, I do explain my method for switching between the yarns but it will help to be comfortable working with two yarns before starting this project
Carrying yarn up behind a chain:
Please use the method you are most comfortable with. If you haven’t carried yarn up between rounds before you may like to google for a tutorial before begining
Being familiar with my style of pattern writing will help, however if you are new to my designs the stitch tips below will help:
Anything between .. repeat the amount indicated by x
Anything between is worked in the same stitch/chain space. Eg. {dc5} in the next st/sp is 5 double crochet worked in the same stitch or space
Unless otherwise noted only the first/ starting chains of each round are counted as a stitch
If working Phosphenes from a single cake I recommend having the middle pull facing down and the outer pull facing up to avoid tangles
Materials needed:
Phosphenes was designed using 4ply/Fingering/weight 2 yarn. Meterage used was 750 m/820 yds.
My samples were made using either one 750 m cake working from either end or two 325 m single colour cakes
The design measures 60 cm across
Stitch markers
Wool/darning needle
Gauge: not required
Tension: Tension: keep stitches firm and even but not tight. Working too tight will make it hard to work the stitches into the V of the stitch below
Recommended hook size: 3 mm
Or hook appropriate for your chosen yarn weight
