Ah, the pattern romance. You see, I struggle with these because I am far from a romantic. I’m not a long walk on the beach, chocolate and flowers kind of person. (On second thought, I’ll take the chocolate… whenever and wherever.) Instead, you give me a full 30-minute break from the kids, a noise cancelling device of some kind and my knitting in a cozy spot, I’ll love you forever. So, this pattern is my ode to the busy person who wants to enjoy knitting a piece with an interesting texture that’s easy to pick up where you left off from the inevitable interruptions of everyday life.

This close-fitting cowl, worn folded in half for double-layered warmth, is perfect for melding that beautiful variegated skein in your stash with a neutral to really show it off. With two different, but equally interesting sides, you can choose which side to wear on the outside, leaving a little peek of the opposite side that you can see against the neck. The conjunction of vertical and horizontal stripes give a cohesive but opposing look.

Additional stitch combinations can be used (suggestions provided on the mods page!), mixing and matching to create your own unique piece!

Needle Size: US 7/4.5 mm; 16” (40 cm) circular, or size needed to obtain gauge.

Yarn: Worsted weight in 2 colors – One solid/semi-solid and one variegated recommended.

Yardage:
Main Color: 123 – 167 yards (112-153 m)
Contrast Color: 123 – 167 yards (112-153 m)

Suggested Yarn: Malabrigo Rios (100% Superwash Merino wool; 210 yards/192 m; 100 g/3.53 oz)
Main Color: Indiecita; 1 hank
Contrast Color: Natural; 1 hank

Gauge: 21.5 stitches and 32 rounds = 4 inches/10 cm in Stockinette stitch, after blocking.

Notions: Stitch marker for marking beginning of round, darning needle for weaving in ends.

Special Techniques: Corrugated ribbing, I-cord bind off, Jogless jog

Final Measurements: Approximately 22.5” (57.15 cm) circumference, 13” (33 cm) depth after light blocking.
The cowl is meant to be worn folded in half, so depth when wearing is about 6.5” (16.51 cm).
