Pelagos
Pelagos (Greek for the open sea) is a marine-inspired wrap knit with a sparkling yarn reminiscent of the sun glittering on the waves. Pelagos begins with one stitch and is created in three sections to form symmetrical, intersecting stripes. Simple, yet not boring due to the fun shaping, Pelagos is a striking wrap and a great way to play with variegated yarn. Note that the two sides of the shawl on either side of the center line use equal amounts of yarn, so if you have a little less (or a little more) than called for and would like to monitor and modify your yarn usage, divide each skein of yarn in half before beginning.
Specific yarn requirements:
Yarn Love Mr. Darcy (60% Superwash Merino, 20% Yak, 20% Silk; 420 yds/ 384 m per 115g); 1 skein of 20,000 Leagues (C1), and
Yarn Love Marie Antoinette (80% Superwash Merino, 10% Cashmere, 10% Metallic; 420 yds/ 384 m per 115g); 1 skein each of Typewriter (C2) and Beneath the Waves (C3) (exclusive to Yarnover Truck for Stitches!)
Or, 1090 yds/ 1000 m of fingering weight yarn: 420 yds/ 385 m of C1, 250 yds/ 230 m of C2, and 420 yds/ 385 m of C3
Needles:
US 6 (4 mm) circular needle, at least 24”/ 60 cm long, or size needed to obtain gauge
Gauge:
19 sts & 38 rows = 4”/ 10 cm in Garter St
Meeting this exact gauge is not crucial, but any major differences will affect the size of the finished wrap.
Errata:
3/27/18 -- Right Bias Rectangle, Increase Section, Row 1 - Inc Row should read “Kfb, knit to last st, kfb - 2 sts inc’d.” This has been corrected in version 2 of the pattern.
9/2/18 -- Center Section, instructions for picking up stitches should read “This will be approximately 4 stitches picked up for every 3 garter ridges”. This has been corrected in version 3 of the pattern.
