Pasaka means Fairytale in Latvian.

The best fairytales have forest in them. In a decent fairytale forest there grow enchanting fragrant flowers on graceful stems. One can get lost there and run into a witch or some elves. But one can also meet the wonderbird or a bewitched girl who takes off her wings before diving into a forest lake. Would you like to set out on a journey looking for your fortune? Then follow me on this path that leads to something wonderful.

Just like a fairytale starts with one word, this shawl starts with a single leaf on a short stem. Step by step with every new row it grows wider and longer until reaches the desired size. The rhythm of stripes and edging pattern repeats lets you enjoy every row and turn, nicely balancing intense steps requiring full attention of the knitter and relaxing moments of simple knitting inbetween. Ultimately the knitter will be the one making the final decision about ending their story.

Every knitter chooses the colour and texture combination for their shawl, telling their own fairytale.

The best yarn for this shawl is fingering weight yarn (400–500 m/100 g). Depending on the size of the shawl you will need at least two contrasting balls — approximately 100 g or 400–500 m each. Depending on the desired character of the fabric either solid or colourful yarns can be used. The speed and style of the colour changes will give each leaf and flower a unique look. The simplest way is to use two balls of gradient yarn with slow colour changes.

The contrast between the yarns can be achieved in various ways: You can use differently coloured same weight yarns — one darker for leaves, the other (or multiple) lighter and / or brighter for flowers. You can use yarn in same or very similar colour but with unlike texture — smooth for leaves (i. e., fine merino), fluffy for flowers (i. e., kid silk). It is possible to create a more intricate appearance with changing only one step of the main design: instead of knitting the whole leaf using the leaf yarn, work the ridge II using the yarn of the flower.
