Materials needed:

Old Shale Square was designed using a 4ply gradient cake yarn. Meterage used for the sample in Hobbii Sultan was approximately 1020 m. The sample is 85 cm square which is a great size for newborns in the pram. The design can be continued until desired size. Meterage needed will vary

You can make the design using any weight yarn and appropriate hook, measurements and meterage will vary

Stitch markers
Wool/darning needle
Blocking mat and pins
Gauge: not required
Recommended Hook size:
2.5-3mm for 3ply/weight 1
3-3.5 mm for 4ply/ weight 2
3.5-4 mm for 8ply/ weight 3
4.5-6 mm for 10ply/ weight 4
Or hook appropriate for your chosen yarn weight

pm: Place marker
dc: Double crochet
bldc: Double crochet worked in the back loop only
bldc2tog: Double crochet two together (decrease) in the back loop only
sc: Single crochet
blsc: Single crochet worked in the back loop only
ch: Chain
skp: Skip stitch
sl st: Slip stitch
ch-sp: Chain space
