Watching Tchaikovsky’s ballet “The Nutcracker” is a Christmas tradition for me, so I have designed a Sugar Plum fairy from the Land of Sweets with her glittery pink tutu, and brave bold Hans the Nutcracker prince.

Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, these dolls are knit in acrylic DK yarns on single pointed needles (not in the round). A crochet hook is used to work a single crochet chain for Nutcracker’s chinstrap.

NEEDLES
A pair of 3.5mm single pointed knitting needles (US 4).

RECOMMENDED YARN
King Cole Big Value DK; double knitting/light worsted weight; 100% acrylic; less than 25g in each colour.

NOTIONS
Tapestry needle, toy filling, 6mm toy safety eyes, a stitch holder and a 3.75mm crochet hook.

SIZES
One size only - Sugarplum is 19cm and Nutcracker is 20cm tall (including the hair bun and hat).

TECHNIQUES
For confident beginners and above, other techniques used include casting on and off, knits, purls, increases and decreases, and seaming to finish.
