The Moving Forward Wrap is shaped like a large arrow. The lace sections are intentionally linear and mirrored to create balance and symmetry. I designed it during a time of personal transition when I had to make important and difficult decisions in order to move my life forward. They say that art imitates life. In this case, I translated my need for life balance into the stitches of this wrap. Wearing this big arrow is an external reminder that I am solely responsible for guiding my life in the right direction. I hope as you work through this design you may also find a sense of balance that will help you to move forward in your own endeavors.

Construction:
The stitch pattern is a blend of lace and garter stitch. A center double decrease creates a chevron shape and a raised spine, which adds to the graphic, kinetic nature of this geometric design.

Width: 14 inches / 35.5 cm

Recommended Yarn:
Flock by A Verb For Keeping Warm - Find custom dyed KITS HERE
290 yards / 265 m - 50 g. Tortilla colorway. Flock is a lightweight, single ply yarn. It is made from California Targhee wool.

Alternative Yarns:
Fingering Weight. Tip: 100% wool or wool blend (non-superwash) yarns will allow you to use wet splicing to attach a new ball. This method is the most seamless way to attach a new ball without adding bulk or having to weave in extra tails.

Yardage:
1236 yards / 1130  m. You should consider purchasing an extra 100 yards / 90 m to allow for variation in gauge and making a swatch.

Needles:
For cast on and bind off:
US 5 / 3.75 mm on 32” / 80 cm cable 

For the body of the shawl:
US 4 / 3.5 mm on 32” / 80 cm cable. 

Make a swatch and block it to ensure your personal tension and yarn of choice meet gauge. Of course, straight needles may be used too.

Gauge:
25 sts and 48 rows = 4” / 10 cm in garter st after blocking

One locking stitch marker, scissors, a tapestry needle, and pen. Optional: row counter.
