Monster Truck Sweater
Big-wheel monster trucks race each other around this cute sweater! Worked in the round from the bottom up, this design uses stranded knitting technique to create the truck motif around the lower body. The sweater is worked flat from the underarms to the neck. It features three-needle bind off at the shoulders and easy drop-shoulder sleeves picked up and knitted down to the cuff for a seamless finish. Bright colors and four size options will make this sweater a big hit the kiddos.
The pattern includes five sizes to fit children 6-12 months (2-4 years, 6-8 years, 10 years).
The gauge is 20 sts and 28 rows over 4” (10cm) in St st on smaller size needle, blocked; 20 sts and 22 rows over 4” (10cm) in stranded St st on larger size needles, blocked.
This is an intermediate level pattern. Knitters should have experience with stranded knitting technique including some long carries, and following a chart with up to three colors per round. Knitters will also use basic decreases to shape the sleeves and Three-Needle Bind-Off technique on the shoulders.
The recommended yarn for this pattern is Knit Picks Mighty Stitch (80% Acrylic, 20% Wool; 208yds/100g): MC (Silver #26820), 2 (3, 3, 4) balls; C1 (Black #26852), 1 ball; C2 (Orange #26817), 1 ball; C3 (Alfalfa #26814), 1 ball
You can substitute any worsted weight yarn for this pattern.
You will also need 16” and 24” (40 and 60 cm) circular needles and DPNs in size US 7 (4.5 mm), or size to obtain gauge, and 16” and 24” (40 and 60 cm) circular needles in size US 8 (5.0 mm), or one size larger than size to obtain gauge.
This pattern includes a schematic, full color chart, written instructions, and notes on Three-Needle Bind-Off technique.
