Mitred Square Scarf 014
Mitred Squares, also known as Domino Knitting, also known as Modular Knitting - some of the names for this great patchwork technique.
Each square is picked up from those around it so there are no seams to sew to make this scarf. It has a frilled edging on each end.
Gauge
Mitred square of 15 sts should measure 4cm (1¾in) in width and length.
Finished Size
80cm (32in) long (excluding frill), 9cm (3½in) wide.
Stitches Used
Cast on, knit, purl, decreasing - sl2tog-k1-p2sso (diagram), increasing - M1, knit into front and back of stitch (diagrams), picking up stitches (diagram).
Materials
Any DK-weight yarn - use a yarn that shows stitches clearly; the squares are joined by picking up stitches.
Use two solid colours - length of each yarn needed is: A = approximately 150m (163yds) and B = approximately 50m (55yds).
Alternatively use a variegated, multi-coloured, or hand painted yarns to emphasise the different directions of knitting.
