Miss Havisham
I can imagine Charles Dickens’ Miss Havisham wearing these mittens. Sitting in her faded and tattered finery, brooding on her lost love and plotting her revenge.
The heart motif is taken from a fire surround at Watts Gallery in Compton, Surrey, the home of the Victorian artist G F Watts, a contemporary of Dickens and just as famous in his time.
