Frothy waves, splashing mermaid tails, and sandy beaches glide gently along the edge of this versatile crescent shawl.

Written for any weight of yarn, this shawl will splash quickly off your needles in bulky weight, or float luxuriously off them in fingering weight. Inspired by the lovely colors of Yarn Cafe Creations’ “Mermaid Party” colorway, this shawl will show off variegated yarn at its best, and is strikingly classic in solids.

The main body of the shawl is knit from the top down, using a modified garter tab cast on to minimize the pointiness of the center crescent shape. Then, the lacy border is knit on sideways. You’ll love breezing through the body section, and just when you need some detail work, it’s time for the border, which works up much faster than you’d expect!

Use one color or emphasize the lace border with a contrast color. You choose the colors and weight, the pattern will do the rest!

Are you ready to party?
