Mary Ellen Squared
This is a square design. This pattern is for intermediate to advanced crocheters. The thing which makes it challenging is crocheting with both colours in a single round (i.e. pass 1 then pass 2).
This pattern could also be done with one gradient colour of cake, treating the zig zag portion of the pattern as a granny square.
You can change the position of the solid band—allowing for more zig zags—and of the position of the suggested edge.
The pattern uses chains and double crochets. The half double crochet join technique is used, in combination with stacked single crochets to start a round.
Yarn:
I suggest KoKonki Motki Ombre. They have a variety of gradient cakes in cotton, cotton acrylic, cotton acrylic shine, soft acrylic, pure merino, and merino. You can even design your own colourway.
They also have a range of Scheepjes and YarnArt Flowers, yarn which would also be suitable for this project.
Available online at kokonki.pl. #kokonki #kokonkimotkiombre
You will need two 1800-2000 m cakes (in two different colourways) to complete this project.
