The proceeds of this pattern go to Woolwerx, a textile art social enterprise supporting women in British Columbia who have barriers to the workplace.

When knitwear designer Yvonne Stowell agreed to have me turn this gorgeous poncho/shawl into a pattern I was beyond thrilled. It is not only significant because this gorgeous shawl can now belong to anyone who can make it, but also because it is one of the few knit designs by Yvonne Stowell which will be offered as a pattern.

Yvonne’s artist statement is as follows:

“Knitting is the medium I am most comfortable in to express my world around me. I am inspired by the textures and colours of nature and the architecture and patterns of the natural world. My work is mostly functional – I need to comfort, cover and enhance – people, objects and spaces with my work. Dyeing and spinning my own yarns increases my ability to create distinctive and original wearable art and accessories.”

All proceeds of this pattern go to Woolwerx, a BC based artisanal wool studio creating opportunity for marginalized women (www.woolwerx.com). This pattern was designed by Yvonne Stowell and written by Janna Maria Vallee. It has been test knit and tech edited.

Materials:
900 yards of fingering weight alpaca and 900 yards of cobweb linen held double.
We used Everlea Yarn 100% alpaca fingering and Maiwa Honest Yarn 100% linen cobweb weight.
4mm circular needles which are 38” long
Safety pins for the seam mock-up
Tapestry needle for seaming

Gauge:
19 stitches and 24 rows is 4” square - blocked

Stitches used:
K - Knit
P - Purl
YO- Yarn over

For a shorter version bind off at row 310 for a total bind off of 314 stitches.
