Marjorie Jumper
Marjorie Jumper
Marjorie is a vintage-style, fair-isle jumper with set in sleeves. Marjorie is worked seamlessly in the round from the bottom up. There are five colors in the pattern design, but most of the knitting is done with just two colors at a time. The shaping for Marjorie is achieved with 3 needle sizes. The smallest size needle is for the ribbing, the medium size needle is for the waist, and the gauge size needle is for the bust and sleeves. There are a few rows with three-colors. Charts are read from right to left. Once the body reaches the underarm, stitches are bound off for the underarm, and steek stitches are added so that you can continue knitting in the round. Stitches are decreased on both sides of the armhole steek on the body to shape the body for the set-in sleeves. A steek is also added for the front neck opening. The sleeves are knit in the round, and a steek is added when the sleeve meets the underarm, so that you can continue knitting in the round and working the decrease for the set-in sleeves. When knitting with three colors, do not cross any of the steeks with Contrast Color D. Simply break the yarn, and weave in the ends away from the steek. The steeks for the armholes, sleeves and neck opening are cut. The front-shoulder stitches are knitted to the back-shoulder stitches with a three-needle bind off for a tidy seam. The sleeves are sewn to the body with a mattress stitch. Finally, the neckband stitches are picked up and knit, and then folded down and tacked down to the inside of the jumper.
