Maori Tattoo Socks
During one Christmas season, we traveled to the beautiful city of Wellington, New Zealand to visit our newborn Godson, Kai. We toured the city and spent Christmas Day in a fantastic museum showcasing the history and culture of Aoetaoroa (New Zealand) and the Maori people. I loved seeing their beautifully ornate tattooing, and both hubby and I were inspired to honor such an amazing culture and tradition.
Maori Tattoo Socks are a toe-up, charted, colorwork pattern knitted on 2 circular needles in Medium and Large sizes. The pattern is mirrored on the front and back so each charted row equals one full round.
Gauge is 7-8 stitches for 1 inch.
This pattern is suitable for intermediate knitters familiar with stranded colorwork techniques.
Medium size uses One (1) 50-gram ball of Main Color, One (1) 50-gram ball of Contrast color.
Large size uses Two (2) 50-gram ball of Main Color, One (1) 50-gram ball of Contrast color.
