This pattern is dedicated to my friend, Melissa McMahon, who is the first State Member (MP) for the new seat of Macalister (Beenleigh and surrounds). A mother of three with over 20 years of uniformed service to Australia and Queensland.

This crochet pattern encompasses four elements Beenleigh is known for—it’s sugar cane, the red bridge crossing the Logan River (seen in the movie “Fortress”), the Beenleigh Bowls Club (where the local chapter of the Australian Crochet Community Facebook group meets twice a month), and its proud military service.

This pattern is for beginning to intermediate crocheters.

This rectangular repeating pattern can be used for anything from a rectangle shawl, pillow/cushion cover, table runner, table cloth, placemat, dresser cover, or as a larger item for across the end of the bed.

There are small charts in each row of the written pattern to assist with visualising the order of stitches and the placement of stitches relative to the row below.
