The lotus is an important flower in many cultures, full of meaning, medicinal, and nutritional qualities. April 8 signifies the day Buddha emerged- a story full of beauty from nothing, inspiring in that we, too, can remain dormant then at once bloom and flower, no matter what challenges put before us.
The lotus, species Nelumbo, is fascinating. It is a thermo-regulating plant able to remain warm despite changes in temperature. The warmth beginning in the bud and continuing as its inner parts emerge throughout the day, holding this warmth throughout the night. It is hardy, beautiful, resilient, and long living. 1300 year old lotus seeds found in China were able to germinate and a single plant can live over 1,000 years. We eat, drink, and even wear parts of the lotus. All parts are edible, the leaves can be made into tea, and the fibers are woven into fabric. Truly a grand botanical wonder…

This Lotus fr Hana Matsuri shawl is a triangle shaped shawl knit from the top down with Russian lace stitches and incorporates suggestions of stitches in other Haapsalu shawls (but no nupps-) It is knit with pattern on both sides and the size easily adjusted.

Le lotus est une fleur importante dans beaucoup de cultures, pleine de symbolisme, qualités médicinales et nutritives. Le 8 avril représente le jour que Bouddha émergea – une histoire pleine de beauté à partir de rien, elle inspire et montre que nous aussi pouvons rester dormant et immédiatement fleurir, peut importe les obstacles que nous confrontons.

Le lotus, d’espèce nelumbo, est fascinant. C’est une plante thermoregulée capable de rester chaude malgré les changements de température. La chaleur s’accumule dans le bourgeon et continue au fur et à mesure que la partie intérieure emerge à travers la journée, puis maintient sa chaleur à travers la nuit. Elle est résistante, belle, résiliente, et vie longtemps. Des graines de 1300 ans trouvé en Chine germèrent  et une plante peut vivre jusqu’à 1000 ans. Nous mangeons et buvons le lotus, et nous nous habillons même avec ses produits. Toutes les parties sont comestibles, les feuilles peuvent être utilisé pour le the, et du tissu tissé à partir de ses fibres. Vraiment une merveille botanique. 

Le Lotus est un châle triangulaire tricoté de haut en bas avec des mailles dentelles du type Haapsalu et Russes. Il est tricoté avec des motifs de chaque côté et la taille peut-être ajusté facilement.
