“Lotta’s Lilacs” is an airy lace shawl with beautiful and intricate stitch pattern. Lace pattern evokes feelings of spring, summer and blooming lilacs flowers. The shawl is seamless and knitted top-down from the central neck stitches to the edge. The shawl has crescent shape. The instructions include option for beaded or not beaded bind off edge.

The yarn that inspired the shawl was a gift from dear Lotta (enugu), hence the name “Lotta’s Lilacs”.

The instructions are both written and charted.

Finished Size:
The sample shawl in the photographs was knitted with 8.5 repeats of lace pattern and after blocking was 175 cm (69 inches) for the straight edge on the top of the shawl and 45 cm (18 inches) for the height of the shawl at the center. You can easily make it bigger or smaller by adding or taking away pattern repeats. The shawl design is modular and border pattern can be started after desired number of the body pattern repeats is knitted.

Gauge:
The gauge is not critical in knitting this shawl. Adjust your needle size to suite your yarn and achieve the size and the look of the shawl of your choice.

Yarn:
446.2 yards (408.0 m) of Fyberspates Nef Lace (Alpaca/silk/cashmere ) 2-ply yarn was used for the sample shawl.
The 2-ply yarn can be substituted for a fingering 4ply weight yarn if desired.

Needles:
US 3-3.25 mm 36” (91 cm) circular needles.

Additional Supplies:
Beads (Miyuki 8/0 beads in color #4220 were used for the sample shawl)
No.10 0.75mm hook to attach beads.
Blocking supplies
Tapestry needle or a crochet hook to weave in the ends
