Lightning Legs
Warmth and Style!
Zigzags have energy. Legwarmers are all about warmth and style. Together they give you striking warmth—a lightning bolt of energy for your legs.
Yarn: For over-the-knee length shown, 45/50/55gm of MC, and 20/22/25gm each of CC1 and CC2 (total of 3 contrasting colors).
Yarn-Choosing Hint: Consider that contrast may include dark / medium / light -or- warm / cool / neutral. Use colors of the same intensity, however. A soft/greyed-out color used with an intensely-saturated color often strikes the eye as a conflict, rather than a contrast.
Pictured is: Front leg - Berroco Blackstone Tweed; 2624 rhubarb (berry), 2637 plum & 2635 wharf (grayed aqua). Rear leg - Kathmandu Aran 148 or 191 (purple), 160 or 153 (green) and 179 Jade (aqua/turquoise).
Yarn Substitutes: (If using my gauge/stitch counts):
Aran-gauge yarn—ball band states appx 4 to 4.75 st/in or contains about 160-190 yd in 100gm, if mostly wool.
This design requires a yarn with stretch/resilience. Best is springy wool. If you choose non-wool fiber, make sure it is blended with lycra, nylon or acrylic to keep these from falling down; 100% plant fiber will not “give” well at first, and will not spring back after stretching. If you use non-wool, watch your gauge after blocking and use the optional smaller needles for the ribbing. Try them on as you knit (on waste yarn or circular ndls) to avoid surprises.
Sizes/Circumference: S/M/L; fits knee circ 10.75”–12”/ 11.75”–13.25”/ 12.66”–14.25”. Larger sizes, add multiples of 4 sts (increases amount of yarn required).
Sizes/Height: (Appx.) 21-22” total length if knit as specified, -OR- knit length to fit! Minimum length for ankle to under-knee on a small adult female might be 14” (this design does not have a fold-over cuff).
