The inspiration to these socks came when I remembered an incident which took place more than ten years ago. It took place while taking an evening walk in the forest at late summer. It was getting nearly pitch black when suddenly I saw something glowing in the dark. The almost neon green lights blinking in front of me felt almost spooky. My heart started pumping faster from adrenalin but I needed to find out what was going on. I walked closer and realized that at a top of a big rock there were tens of glowing worms. I was enchanted by their beauty. I followed these little bugs for tens of minutes. Then one by one the lights shut down. I had heard stories about “glow worms” but did not know they existed so far up north as in Finland. The name of these socks come from the Latin name,Lampyris noctiluca, “glow worm”.
These socks are worked using 5 double point needles.
The socks are knitted inside out, and turned around after finishing the work. Because of this remember to keep the other yarn always in front of the work when not using it.
To get the heel seaming to work nicely the work is turned inside out twice while working the heel. First at the beginning of the heel flap and second time after picking the stitches from the side of the heel flap.
