Ladies Slippers
Now that the Winter months are here, these slippers are really coming in to their own!
When I designed these, I thought of something practical to keep my feet warm whilst watching TV - something I didn’t mind people putting on to the sofa and something cosier than socks. I hadn’t realised the comfort value they would provide!
I like to put mine on to symbolise ‘relax’ time - the moment I’m off duty from the kitchen and the time I change in to my lounge wear, something luxurious to spoil myself with. My husband thinks of them as a wifely cuddle while he’s at his desk, and the girls all have a pair which they put on to show they’ve come home and all’s well with the World after all - the kind of treat you find only at mum’s house…
They are worked from a provisional cast-on and with a cleverly shaped sole, which makes the slipper fold snuggly around the foot. The slippers are finished with a single raised seam detail on the top of the foot and nothing to rub or cause discomfort in wear.
The fabric is very stretchy, so these things are so comfortable it’s untrue - one size will fit a great deal of different feet and can easily be lengthened or shortened to adapt for more.
Finishing embellishments can be classy or fun - let your imagination run riot! I put tabs on the back of my dad’s ones to help him pull them on (he’s 80) and pompoms on for my friend. The girls have delicate bows and hubby likes a block ribbon on the back, a bit like his summer espadrilles.
This pattern will not disappoint, it is quite easy to master and completely addictive to make. Toasty toes, here we come!
