Let me introduce you to the brioche Rhinebeck cardigan of my dreams :: La Briohème :: A bohemian open cardigan with drop sleeves, long brioche cuffs, a cozy brioche collar, and a large brioche hem as the focal point. This thick, cozy cardigan is meant to be worn with 2 - 4” / 5 - 10 cm of positive ease, a perfect fit over your favorite dress for a night out or even layered over a nice collared shirt for those chilly work days.

Check La Bien Aimée’s website to grab some Merino Aran yarn for your own La Briohème cardi!! These are not kits, they are individual skeins. I have listed how many you will need for your size below.

Skill level: Intermediate. Basic brioche skills are not required, but are recommended. Techniques used: knit, purl, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), brioche increases and decreases, knitting in the round, short rows.

The brioche portions of this pattern are both written and charted for your convenience! Full schematic included in pattern.

Construction Notes: This cardigan begins with the large Brioche Hem, which is knit sideways. After completing, stitches are picked up along the top of the hem to make up the body. This is knit in plain stockinette up to the armholes, which are then separated and the Fronts and Back are knit separately up to the shoulders. A Three-Needle Bind off is used to seam the shoulders to give extra stability and a clean look. The sleeves are also mainly stockinette stitch, up to the decorative brioche cuff. For a finishing touch, stitches are picked up along the hem, the edges of the body and the back neck to add a brioche collar.

Finished Sizes: (Bust circumference without collar overlapped) 32 {36, 40, 44} (48, 52, 56, 60)” / 81 {91, 101.5, 112} (122, 132, 142, 152) cm. These sizes are the actual bust measurements of the garment. Choose your size based on your own bust measurement and add your desired ease. Sample is shown in Size M on a 36” bust.

Yarn Notes: The CC yarn is used for the Main Body of the cardigan. Worsted weight yarn may be substituted for this cardigan, but please note that your sizing and yardage / meterage amounts may vary from the pattern.

Needles: Small: US 6 / 4mm : 40” / 102 cm long circular
Large: US 8 / 4.5mm : 40” / 102 cm long circular
OR sizes needed to obtain gauge.

Tools: Tapestry needle, row counter, 5 lengths of smooth waste yarn, 1 stitch marker for noting beginning of round, 1 additional Large needle for Three Needle Bind Off.

Gauge: Stockinette stitch knit flat using Large needle: 16 sts x 26.5 rows = 4” / 10 cm (taken after blocking).
Brioche Lace pattern knit flat using Small needle: 16 sts x 21 rows = 4” / 10 cm (taken after blocking).
