In the fall of 2019, I was going to be heading to the New York Sheep and Wool festival, otherwise known as Rhinebeck. The concept of the Rhinebeck sweater has been established for years and I was thinking it would be the perfect time to wear a design that I had been thinking about for years. In August, when I headed north here in Minnesota on vacation with my husband, I had packed a large tote bag full of sport weight wool in a variety of colors and some charts I had worked up for ideas. I knit continually on this sweater over the next week, (while my husband fished) and sorted different colors and charts as I worked. Eventually I decided it should be tunic length, as I wanted to include MORE word charts. In the original sweater, the concept of putting the word “sleeve” on the actual sleeve came about because I did not have a word short enough left to fit the small circumference and still be readable. I have had many requests to write this up as a sweater, but the problem lies in being able to grade the word charts to fit into the many sizes. I have settled on 3 words and a yoked sweater, although I’ll include all the charts from the original sweater in case, you’re a designer at heart, and would like to apply your own math to your particular size. I say: “Go for it!”

PATTERN NOTES:
The sweater is worked from the neck down and has a circular yoke construction. Sleeve stitches are held to be picked up later and worked downward. The sweater is designed with 2-3” of positive ease. Save time and worry, buy an extra main color skein as your preferred length could vary from the pattern.
ERRATA: Size 8 only; p 4; Rnd 9-16 should read 7 times around.

SAMPLES:
Sample 1, size 3 or 37.75, was knit in Brown Sheep Nature Spun Sport in colors Scarlet, Silver charm, Spiced Plum, Grey Heather and Brick Road and weighed 218g/802 yds.

Sample 2, size 5 or 42.25, was knit in Brown Sheep Nature Spun Sport in colors Pomegranate, Sunburst Gold, Harvest Wheat, Scarlet, French Clay and Brick Road and weighed 264g/972 yds.

Original prototype (Rhinebeck 2019) was knit in Jill Draper Makes Stuff Mohonk, sport weight, 370yds / 338m ~4oz /113g, 100% lamb’s wool woolen spun, using 8 colors: Bittersweet Berries, Pale Lapis, Regal, Greenbug, Cypress, Sapphire, Power Puff, Terracotta.
